Study programme Engineering Informatics at the College of Computer Science and Business Communications eMPIRICA in Brcko District of BiH is the only engineering informatics study programme in BiH which enables students to attend Cisco Academy programme free of charge within the studies ( 4 semesters in Cisco Academy are content-wise transposed into 4 courses of the programme study), which prepares them for passing the exam and acquiring Cisco certificate, one of the most distinguished industry certificates in the world in the network technology sphere.
Upon graduating from College of Computer Science and Business Communications eMPIRICA, study programme Engineering Informatics, the students will receive Bachelor's degree and the title:
Bachelor of Engineering Informatics
Upon graduating from this study program, the graduates will be competent to:
- Create computer applications for desktop and web,
- Design, program, implement and administer computer databases,
- Create business information systems and decision-making support system,
- Plan, implement, administer and maintain information system security,
- Design, implement, administer and maintain information network systems,
- Provide customer support during the IT application implementation and usage,
- Sell information and communication equipment, programs and systems,
- Manage an IT company.
In the course and upon graduating from College of Computer Science and Business Communications eMPIRICA, study program Engineering Informatics, the students will gain:
(a) Knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Knowledge of fundamental mathematical principles and methods applied in computer science and IT,
- Knowledge of fundamental scientific principles and basic concepts underlying information and communication technologies,
- Understanding fundamental computing concepts,
- Knowledge of programming basics used in software and system engineering,
- Knowledge of computer networks and networking protocols,
- Understanding work principles of and acquiring knowledge about designing, programming, implementing and administrating computer databases,
- Knowledge of planning, designing and managing IT systems and IT system security,
- Using techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for practice,
- Knowledge of how companies operate in the market economy and knowledge of organisation and management basics,
- Using the English language in technical literature and everyday communication,
- Presenting information, ideas, problems and solutions to users and associates,
- Adapting to new technologies and techniques as part of lifelong learning,
- Work in a team and project group, according to labour market demands,
- Work in a dynamic project environment and knowledge of methodology in leading IT projects,
- Knowledge of social, ethical, business and legal contexts in which a diploma holder works.
(b) Engineering analysis
- Ability to apply their knowledge and understanding to identify, formulate and solve engineering-related problems in computing and IT,
- Ability to apply the acquired knowledge and understanding of the analysis of information and communication technologies, products, processes and methods,
- Ability to select and apply relevant analytical and programming methods, as well as designing methods.
(c) Engineering design
- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding to specify, develop and materialise a design in accordance with defined and specified requirements,
- Understanding design methodologies in computing and IT, as well as being able to use adequate mathematical methods, programming and designing techniques and ICT tools.
(d) Research
- Ability to use literature, databases and other sources of information,
- Ability to use laboratory equipment and developing environments, and analyse, evaluate and verify results,
- Ability to raise their knowledge to a higher level, deepen understanding of their area of study or discipline, and continually develop their skills through independent learning and development,
- Learning skills enabling them to continue studies in a manner that will predominantly be self-directed, research-oriented and autonomous,
- Interpersonal skills and team work skills, appropriate for different learning contexts and employment, leadership skills and/or ability to start an initiative and contribute to a change and development.
(e) Engineering practice
- Selecting and applying corresponding scientific principles, mathematical methods and computer tools in analysing, designing and implementing IT systems,
- Ability to combine theory and practice in solving problems,
- Understanding applicable techniques and methods, as well as their limits,
- Awareness of the engineering practice impact on the society.
